5No more straining to see at night:)
By Sharon R. Taylor
I read reviews on the dock and thought it would make a great addition to my accessory collection, I have the car mount and love it. This mount allows me to have a clock by my side of the bed that I can see without having to put on my glasses. It also doubles as an overnight charger, I often forget to charge and the battery is so low in the morning that I often have to limit use while out for the day. It is solid and well made, almost sexy in it's clean styling. If you are in doubt about purchasing, don't think about it anymore, BUY IT NOW!!!! It will be well worth it.

3Nice to replace my alarm clock!
By Hummingbirds
I bought this to replace the phone/radio alarm clock on my nightstand. And it is very nice to have this instead!! The dock looks nice and sleek and the phone goes obediently into dock mode as soon as it even touches the magnet. The only trouble is sometimes it is not in the dock completely before this happens. I am hoping it will loosen up a bit from use, because it is a VERY tight fit and struggle to get it in the dock, as it goes in and out of dock mode while trying. Once docked it shows the clock and some pre-loaded widgets. These widgets can be deleted (as I have done), and more added to suit your needs/taste. The screen at first said "Problem loading widget" when it docked. This is the weather widget it is trying to load, and many are having this problem. Just long-press this and drag it over to the trash can on the right of the screen. After you delete it, long-press on your screen and add the Weather widget again from the Dock Widgets in the popup box. It should work/load correctly after that. I did find that the clock was bright (even when dimmed), so I am currently trying an app (from the Market) called NightClock. It is a black screen with red digital clock -- and you can even pick the color/hue and font that you want for the clock numbers. I use a very dark red and it is nice. It also allows screen dimming as well, so you may want to give that app a try if you find the stock screen too bright. It is easy to switch back and forth between the Nightclock and the regular screen/clock too. My final comment is on the tight fit of this dock. Motorola must have had their heads up their butts when they designed the fit, because I don't know of ANY protective cases that will fit with this dock. I am very upset that my phone must now go "naked" and I am not able to use a protective case on a $500 phone. :( So for this, my rating drops to 3 stars.

4Best option currently available
By Keith Vanderwielen
The stand provides a nice, secure fit and is relatively easy to slip the Droid X in and out. I haven't used the HDMI out on my Droid X, so I can't comment on that, but hardware-wise this is 5 stars.

The software is also pretty solid. Putting the Droid X in the dock activates the dock program, which features a large, easy to read clock, charging indicator, and a widget/app bar at the bottom. It defaults to an Accuweather widget, a calculator, and the calendar, although you can change any of these or slide left or right to access and addition 8 slots. The weather widget is the biggest gripe... it takes up two slots for no real reason and has been very buggy, frequently losing the location, although that seems to be improving in recent Droid X updates. You can just get rid of it if you like by long-pressing it and dragging to the trash, and similarly you can add other widgets/apps by long-pressing on the desired spot on the slider bar.

For whatever reason, the Droid X hangs whenever it's coming out of the dock... takes it about 30 seconds to fully shift back to it's default interface. This is a software issue that may get fixed. You can also use the X button to exit out of the dock screen at any time and use the regular Droid X interface.

At the time of this review (10/2010), this is far superior to any 3rd party options I have seen. Given how much power the Droid X can suck, I highly recommend getting this dock for work or your desk or nightstand at home.
